Sykes, G., A/Smn., 1915
In Lancashire Landing Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of KP/705 Able Seaman George Henry Sykes, serving with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve who died 16/06/1915.

Colin Boyd has provided the following:

George was born on 19th January 1895. He was working as a warehouseman living with his mother, Mary at 30, South Street, Shildon when he enlisted in the Northumberland Fusiliers on 5th September 1914.

He transferred to the RNVR on 10th September 1914 and joined the Anson Battalion on 3rd November 1914.

George died from the effects of a gun shot wound to the abdomen in Gallipoli on 16th June 1915.

George Sykes is remembered in Shildon on S122.02, S122.03 and S122.04
