Yvonne Cairns has supplied the following:

I am currently researching the April 1918 casualties for Alan Regin and have found a bit more info on Bombardier George William Tyreman, Shildon died 16th April 1918.

He was married to Sarah Annie Pearson on the 20th May 1916 at St. John’s Shildon.

He had 2 brothers Benjamin & Joseph and a sister Alice.

Parents are marked as none on service papers.

He died of wounds received in action – gunshot wounds to chest and abdomen.

His wife received a telegram stamped Dover 15th April (so not sure if she got it before he died). It read:

"Regret inform you Officer commanding 7 Stationary Hospital Boulogne telegraphs 15th April your husband 295863 Lance Bombardier G W Tyreman 151 Heavy Battery RGA dangerously wounded.

If you desire to visit him call for permit at Alexandra House Kingsway London bringing this telegram or if you are unable to bear expense to London take this telegram to nearest Police Station".

(I haven’t come across such a telegram before).

Bombardier Tyreman is listed on a national Roll of Honour of Bellringers in St.Paul’s Cathedral, London extracted by Alan Regin and on a Roll of Honour of Bellringers in Newcastle Cathedral

George William Tyreman is remembered at Shildon on S122.02, and at Newcastle on NUT098 and is also remembered on the North Eastern Railway War Memorial at York.
