Sullivan, O., Pte., 1915
On the Loos Memorial, Pas de Calais, France is the name of 5750 Private Owen Sullivan serving with the 13th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers who died 27/09/1915.

Paul Heatherington has submitted the following:-

Owen Sullivan was born in 1893 in either Leadgate or Iveston. His father, James Sullivan was a coal miner, born in County Monaghan in Ireland. His mother, Ann (née Mullen) was from Leadgate. Owen was the youngest of eleven children. Catherine, born 1879, died as an infant.Joseph, born 1881, died aged nine years. The remaining siblings were: Michael, Mary, Margaret,James, Ellen, Catherine, Teresa, and Bridget. Owen’s mother, Ann, died in late 1893, possibly in childbirth with Owen.

In 1901, the family were living at 30 Jubilee Terrace, Medomsley.

By 1911 they were at 13 Jubilee Terrace, Hamsterley Colliery. Owen at that time was living with his married brother, James, at 130 Cross Row, Hamsterley, and working as a pony putter in a coal mine.

Owen enlisted as a Private in the Northumberland Fusiliers. He died on the 27th September 1915 (“death presumed”). He is commemorated at the Loos Memorial in Pas-de-Calais.
