Frank Bramley

On Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium is the name of 16219 Private Frank Bramley serving with the 2nd Battalion Royal Scots Fusiliers who died 31/07/1917.

Son of George and Jane Anne Bramley, of 19, Victoria Terrace, Blackhill, Co. Durham.

Frank’s parents were both born in the Consett area. His father, George Bramley, was born in Benfieldside. His mother, Jane Anne (née Barron), was born in Castleside. Frank was born in Benfieldside in the summer of 1894. He had an older brother, George, and a younger brother and sister, Joseph and Margaret.

In 1901, the family were living at 18 Benfieldside Road. At that time, Frank’s father was a coal miner. By 1911, he had become a school caretaker and the family were living at 59 Durham Road. Frank and his brother George were both stock takers in the steelworks.

During the war, Frank enlisted as a Private in the Royal Scots Fusiliers. He was killed in action in Belgium on the 31st July 1917 and is commemorated at the Menin Gate Memorial in Ypres.
