John Edwin Bruntlett was born in Skegness on the 10th March 1897. His father was George Samuel Bruntlett of 4 Rodham Terrace, West Stanley, Co Durham. Educated at Park School, Whitley Bay and worked for the N.E.R. as a Railway Clerk.

He enlisted on the 14th June 1915 and was sent to France and Flanders on the 18th May 1916.

He died from wounds received in action, on the 25th December 1917. He died at the King George's Hospital, London. The wounds were received in action on the 12th September at Arras.

John Edwin Bruntlett is remembered at Stanley on S135.04 and at Hexham on H51.03, H51.13, H51.26 and on the Railway Memorial at York
