Samuel Hannah was born in 1896 at Gateshead the son of William (born 1859 Ireland) and Alice (born 1860 Newcastle). In 1901 the family are living at 33 Victoria Street Gateshead. William is a general labourer.
In 1911 Samuel is living aged 15 in Gateshead Guardians' Cottage Homes at Shotley Bridge. He is an apprentice shoemaker. His parents William and Alice are inmates of High Team Union Workhouse.
When war was declared Samuel enlisted at Newcastle in the 1st Battalion of the Northumberland Fusiliers. He embarked for France 03/09/1915.
Samuel Hannah died of wounds 19th of October 1915 in 17 Casualty Clearing Station.
He was awarded the 15 Star, the Victory and British medals. His mother Alice and half-sister Mrs Sarah Barber received any monies due to Samuel.
Samuel Hannah is remembered at Medomsley on M36.03 and possibly at Newburn on N13.01 and N13.02
