Coroners Court. Coroners report Number 277, 22/05/1916.

"William Nicholas Smith aged 53 years. Gunner, Royal Field Artillery Barracks, N/C. Res. Tower House. Found dead in a water closet at the R.F.A. Barracks at 12.15am on 20th.

Deceased died from Fatty degeneration of the heart following prolonged and excessive drinking."

He is remembered at Hamsterley on H140.03
