Fulton, J., Sgt., 1944
In Clichy Northern Cemetery, on the northern outskirts of Paris, is the Commonwealth War Grave of 1079160 Sergeant Joseph Fulton, serving with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, who died 08/06/1944.

Simon Glancey has submitted the following:

Sgt. Fulton was killed when Avro Lancaster I LM126 AS-A2 of 166 Squadron was lost on a mission to bomb rail facilities at Versailles. The Lancaster was shot down by a Luftwaffe night fighter, and crashed at Bois d'Arcy, near Versailles, with the loss of all seven crew members.

Lancaster LM126 AS-A2 had departed Kirmington at 0010 for Ops Versailles.

There are two possible claims for this loss;

It was either intercepted at 1500M, W of Paris by a Night-Fighter captained by Ofw Herbert Altner (VIII/NJG5) and shot down at 0222 for his 6th Abschuss

Or
It was intercepted at 800M in the Versailles area by a Night-Fighter captained by Ofw Richard Rother (VI/NJG1) and shot down at 0233 for his 1st Abschuss
