"At Winlaton Church, on Sunday morning, a memorial service was held in honour of the following fallen scouts:

Ryton:
Patrol leaders Samuel Lawrenson; John Noble; F. Noble
There were quite 200 Boy Scouts present from the districts of Winlaton, Blaydon, Ryton, Greenside, Emmaville and Spen. They were inspected at Winlaton by the Commissioner, Mr. John E. Cowen, after which they marched to the parish church. The service was intoned by the assistant priest, the Rev. M. Bell, the lessons were read by Mr. Cowen, and at the conclusion of the service, the Dead March from “Saul” was played. The Last Post was sounded."
