A group Yarm 1914 had been set up to commemorate the Centenary. A Wall of Poppies which can be projected onto buildings will reveal a poppy for each of the more than 80 local soldiers who died in the war. The aim is to show the poignant display on Remembrance Sunday 2014 over a map of Yarm naming the soldiers and showing where they lived.
A military re-enactment society will bring trench warfare to life at the start of August possibly on a school field.
This will be followed by a parade.
Yarm Parish Church will host a display during it's summer fair in August on the town's role in the war.
Events are being organised by Yarm Town Councillor Peter Monck whose grandfather fought in the battle of Passchendale in 1917.
