Havelock-Allan Cup presented to Morpeth
The Morpeth Herald 17/04/1920 reports:

"Havelock-Allan Cup presented to Morpeth.

At a meeting of the Morpeth Town Council, Colonel Gillespie, on behalf of himself and the surviving winners of the Havelock-Allan Cup, presented the cup and also a banner to the Corporation. In handing over the original cup, which was presented by Lieut.-General Sir Henry Havelock-Allan to the Tyne and Tees Volunteer Infantry brigade for field firing, Colonel Gillespie said that Morpeth company had won the cup three times. The competitio took place annually from 1890 to 1897. The winners were: Sunderland, 1890; Middlesbrough, 1891; Chester-le-Street, 1892; Gateshead, 1893; Morpeth, 1894; Bishop Auckland, 1895; and Morpeth 1896 and 1897. It became the absolute property of Morpeth because it was won two years in succession.
The Mayor, (Councillor R.L. Fearly) accepted the gifts on behalf of the Corporation, and assured Colonel Gillespie and the survivors that they would be treasured for all time."
