Proposed Victory Sports Club
The Newcastle Daily Chronicle 30/05/1919 reports a proposed Victory Sports Club for Cramlington.
The first cricket match of the season under the auspices of the proposed Cramlington Victory Memorial Sports Club took place on the cricket pitch of the former Cramlington Cricket Club, between club members and officers of R.A.F. Cramlington.
A committee had been formed to carry out the project. A programme of sports and other fund raising events were proposed to raise funds to build a Victory Memorial Hall, costing £1,600 - £2,000. All the men who served from Cramlington would have his name inscribed on the stones.
The Hall would provide facilities for social gatherings, debates, reading room, billiards and other indoor games. There would be a roof garden where tennis, croquet and other games could be played.
150 members had been enrolled. Capt. T.O. Wood, agent from the Cramlington Coal Co. Ltd. was showing great interest.
