Sir James Knott's proposals 1919
The Newcastle Weekly Chronicle of 05/04/1919 and the Morpeth Herald 11/04/1919 both report that Sir James Knott of Wylam proposed to establish cottage homes at Blyth in memory of his two sons, Major Basil Knott and Captain James Leadbitter Knott. These cottages were for widows and dependents of the fallen and for disabled men from Blyth who had served under his two late sons.
He also proposed building two churches, one at Newsham and one at New York.
