Highfield Park nominated as a Centenary Park 2016
The Hexham Courant 06/08/2016 reports:
Park nominated to honour heroes.

A Prudhoe park has been nominated as a place suitable to honour the memory of those who lost their lives in the First World War.

Highfield Park could soon become part of a nation-wide scheme, backed by the Duke of Cambridge, which aims to secure recreational spaces in perpetuity to mark the 100th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme.

After hearing about the Centenary fields programme, a joint initiative from the Royal British Legion and Fields in Trust, Prudhoe Town Council has agreed the park is the perfect spot.

Coun. Nadine McGee said: ‘Town and parish councils are being invited to nominate a recreational space to be dedicated as a Centenary Field to mark the milestone in history and leave a legacy.’

The council leases the site from Northumberland Estates but has agreed to seek the approval of the Duke of Northumberland to pursue the scheme.
