The Morpeth Herald 21/11/1919 reports:
"P.M. Church, Stakeford.
On Saturday evening there was a 'Welcome Home and Presentation' to the young men and women connected with the above place who had just returned from army service. A concert was given. At the close of the concert the Rev. T. Barnes presented, on behalf of the church, each one who had returned from army service with a hymn book, beautifully bound, and inscribed with the recipient's name in gold letters. . .the audience was visibly affected because two were not able to answer their names - one had paid the supreme sacrifice in France, the other dying after his return from the severe climate of Salonica. . . ."
