BERWICK-UPON-TWEED

Freedom of Borough presented 1921
The Newcastle Daily Chronicle 05/07/1921 reports:

"Berwick's Tribute.
Freedom of Borough for 400 Officers and Ex-servicemen.
The honorary freed of Berwick was yesterday presented to Lieut.Col. G. Scott Jackson, Lieut.Col. Hugh Liddell (who commanded the 7th N.F. in the war), and also to 398 ex-servicemen who served overseas, on the sea, or in the air during the war.

About half the men were present in person, and the Mayor, in congratulating them, said this was the highest honour the borough could pay them.

There was a brief silence before beginning when the 430 men who fell were remembered."
