"At a meeting of Berwick Sanitary Authority held last night a proposal was submitted to sell the engine of Berwick's presentation tank and use the money derived from the sale in the upkeep of the tank.

Several councillors opposed this as not being a fitting way to treat a present given to the town by the government while the Sheriff (Mr. Thomas Wilson) said they should pass a vote of censure for the prodigal way they distributed valuable machinery about the country and allowed it to go to waste.

It was finally agreed to write to the Controller of War Savings Committees to see if sanction would be given to the selling of the engine of the tank."
