Newcastle Daily Chronicle 12/02/1916

The Newcastle Daily Chronicle 12/2/1916 reports a team race for companies of the 7th Northumberland Fusiliers from Alnwick camps over a course of four miles. Four teams participated, and the battalion team which has shone in the big military cross-country runs at Morpeth, Newcastle and Sunderland . . .The first ten men in of a team counted. As a result of their continuous training for several weeks the battalion team were the first to arrive. They did not win, however, because Drummer Adamson in coming down the north road unfortunately mistook the gate entrance and had to submit to a disqualification. The battalion team, despite their handicap of 180, would have won easily but for Adamson's unfortunate blunder. The C (Draft) Company were the only other team to finish with ten runners, and they were awarded the prize. The first home after Adamson was Sergeant Hunter, who was awarded an individual prize."
