Guns as trophies
"Two field guns captured in the Great War have been presented to the Alnwick Urban Council. These relics, with several other trophies, will form a small armoury for the council".

German guns not wanted
The captured German guns sent to Alnwick as war relics were placed at Alnwick Auction Mart (who) have now sent a request . . .to have the guns removed from the main alley way to the sheep pens at the mart. Apart from the fact that the guns were in the way of the traffic, several customers objected as being painful reminders of relatives and friends lost in the war.
