2014 Centenary commemorations
Jim Smith reports:

Our group produced a three day WW1 exhibition in the community hall adjoining Walker Parish Church over 2nd to 4th August 2014. At 4.00 pm on the Monday - the centenary day of the WW1 outbreak - we walked in a procession behind a piper, the Cross, a Canon, and a huge number of local residents. There was a service of remembrance during which two members of the armed services gave readings along with the Local MP Nick Brown. A piper played laments whilst a wreath on behalf of our group was laid by Major Spencer. Three members of the Fusiliers Association laid crosses, then local residents adorned the memorial steps with flowers. It was quite an emotional service and we were encouraged by everyone to push on with the refurbishment project.
