Newcastle Daily Chronicle 30/12/1921 reports proposed laying up; 9/1/1922 reports ceremony.

The battalion had been largely raised in Newcastle. "Some of the most strenuous times that the Division had were around Arras, the town which our city had adopted in the devastated area of France".

"The Bishop recalled their glorious but forlorn exploits at Antwerp in October 1914, after but two months' training. The Division thereafter returned to England with over 2,000 casualties. Later, members of the Division fought valiantly at Gallipoli, Salonika, in France and in Flanders."
