NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE

A Certificate on a pre-printed form was issued to the families of members who had fallen in 1914-18.

There is a border of oak leaves and acorns, with photos of war leaders in oval frame at centre left, bottom and right. At the top is a photo of the church, above which is a ribbon bearing the dates “1914-1919”. The lettering is printed so that a name can be handwritten in the appropriate place. It is signed at the bottom by J.H. Maconachie, Minister; Thomas L. Ewing, Session Clerk; Geo. Porthouse, Clerk at Deacon’s Court.

The certificate has a reference ?13-6-C M.& Co., Ltd., Printers, Newcastle upon Tyne.

One of these can now been seen at St. James' United Reformed Church.

It is not known how many of these were printed. Presumably there was one for each of the names on NUT139. Each one reads:

1914-1919
Trinity Presbyterian Church
Northumberland Road
Newcastle – upon – Tyne

In Affectionate Remembrance of
(Name)
who during the Great War gave his life for
the sacred cause of Justice and Liberty. He
bravely died that we might live, and his memory
