An Elswick Souvenir 1916
The Newcastle Daily Chronicle 11/12/1916 reports:

A Elswick Souvenir
A very neatly got-up and interesting publication has been issued from Mr. Richard Mayne's Press, 318, Scotswood Road, Newcastle, under the title "Carry On". It is "the Armstrong Munitions Workers' Christmas Magazine" and has been published by "those engaged on munitions of war at the works of Sir W.G. Armstrong, Whitworth and Company Ltd., in aid of Northern War Funds". A letter has been received from the private secretary to the Queen, stating that her Majesty is interested in the efforts of the munition workers, and will gladly accept a copy of the magazine. Letters containing greetings and appreciation of munitions workers' services, and please for increased efforts, have been received from Sir. John Jellicoe, Viscount French, and several others.

The magazine contains 73 items, including stories, poetry, miscellaneous articles, music and illustrations, and its 82 pages are brimful of interesting matter. The cover exhibits the smiling presentment of a girl munition worker, standing at the salute. The contributors are mostly employed in Messrs. Armstrong's works, and they have produced "an interesting and lasting souvenir which will serve as a reminder in days to come of a time when Britain was a nation in arms." The price of the magazine is one shilling.
