Boilermakers' Welcome Home 1919

Newcastle Daily Chronicle 8/12/1919

The Newcastle Daily Chronicle 08/12/1919 reports:

Boilermakers’ Welcome Home.

Mr. John Hill and a New Standard of Living.

A welcome home was given to 111 members of the Byker No. 1 Branch of the Boilermakers and Shipbuilders’ Society on Saturday evening, in the Raby Street Council Schools. Over 400 members and friends sat down to tea, after which a social and dance, and a presentation of a bound copy of the History of the Boilermakers’ Society and a silver medallion, suitable inscribed, was presented to each of the ex-servicemen. . . .

From this branch alone, 80 members had seen service with the Army and 34 with the Navy. They welcomed all these but three back again who had made the great sacrifice in the endeavour to make their country a cleaner and better one for those left behind.
