Neglected War Memorials, 1932
The following letter appeared in the Shields Daily Gazette on 01/03/1932:

Sir, I wish once again to draw attention to the neglected war memorials. Since my last letter I have seen a more disgraceful sight, in the shape of the "once" Percy Street Memorial.

This object, so disdainfully neglected, is hanging in pieces, and adorned with the naked boughs of a tree.

Can our British Legion not do anything?

On has inscribed thereon "Remember them in your prayers (Readhead Street). It's not prayers that's needed, it's actions, by the shape of repairs and cleaning.

I do hope the residents of the above-mentioned street (and many more streets) will strive to do something in the near future. (signed) pro Bono.
