Westoe Hall, 1943

Westoe Hall

The future of Westoe Hall, Westoe village, which was formerly the residence of Sir James Readhead, Bart, and is at present used as headquarters of the local National Fire Service , was discussed by South Shields Town Council last night. Arising out of a proposal that the site should be acquired by the Education Committee for use as a Junior Technical School and premises for Youth Service, the Town Clerk (Mr H Ayrey) read a letter from the Regional Commissioners, which stated "... it is not possible to give any indication at the present stage of the war about the future use of these premises. This is a matter which can be determined only when a national policy has been settled".
