Ministry of Pensions to open in South Shields 1945
"The Shields Gazette 31/05/1945 reports that it "understands that the Ministry of Pensions has decided to open an office in King Street, South Shields. Although official details are not yet available it is believed that the office will be opened some time next month and that the opening days will be restricted to two or three each week. This decision of the Ministry will be of great assistance to South Shields people generally and the sea going fraternity in particular as at present, where personal visits for medical examination or other purposes have to be made to the Ministry of Pensions, it necessary for those affected to travel to Newcastle."
