Wedding cake sent to German P.O.W.
The Shields Gazette 30/04/1940 reports:

One of the B.E.F. prisoners taken in the German raid on a Western Front outpost on Tuesday is to be sent his wedding cake iced with the words 'Welcome home'. The cake was to have been cut for the first time when Private Harold Reginald Fairclough, of the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry, returned home on leave next week. He was married 10 days before he went to France in September and his 25-year-old wife has only seen him for only 25 hours in that time. She is the elder daughter of Mr and Mrs McCarthy, of Beaumont Street, Hebburn.
