Among the five women from Northumberland and Co. Durham was Mrs. Margaret Lorraine of New Seaham who was killed in a bombing raid. The public house which she ran (Colliers Inn) received a direct hit. She had already led her invalid husband and customers to safety.
The W.V.S. Roll of Honour states that she helped as a Rest Centre Worker and Knitter. She died on 23rd October 1941.
