The Newcastle Daily Chronicle 28/01/1916 reports:-
Seventy-one wounded soldiers arrived at Sunderland late on Wednesday night, from Dover, and were conveyed to the various hospitals in the town. Fifty were cot cases. The staff of the St. John Ambulance Brigade and others were in attendance, and the horse and motor ambulances had the wounded taken to the places allotted to them with the utmost dispatch. Private cars were also in attendance for the conveyance of those less seriously wounded.
