Colours of 7th D.L.I. laid up

Minster

The Newcastle Daily Chronicle01/05/1922 reports that the colours of the 7th Battalion D.L.I. were laid up in Bishopwearmouth Church (now the Minster) in May, 1922.

The colours were presented to the 7th D.L.I. (Volunteers) in 1803 by Lady Milbanke, and in 1915 they were deposited for safe keeping in St.Thomas's Church, the vicar, the Rev. P. Greenwood, being then chaplain to the battalion. In 1917 they were then removed to St.Paul's, but it was now decided they should go into the Parish Church for ever.
