Nelson the Tank Bank
The Illustrated Chronicle 12/01/1918 reported that the Sunderland War Service Association were making arrangements for the Tank "Nelson" to visit during the week beginning January 21st and would stand near the General Post office. It would be open every day until 8.00 p.m. so that people could save for the war effort

In April 1919 the Newcastle Weekly Chronicle reported:
"The offer of a tank to the town of Sunderland was mentioned by the Town Clerk at Wednesday's Council meeting, but the Council agreed to accept only the tank which, during a recent offensive was manned by Sunderland men and which was instrumental in silencing a German machine gun and anti-tank gun section which had brought havoc amongst the tank section, thus permitting of the continuance of the offensive".
