In the Tourist Information section of Sunderland Library is a similar certificate which was awarded to Robert Charlton, who served with the Royal Garrison Artillery.
The Newcastle Daily Chronicle 22/09/1920 reports that "The Sunderland and District Boy Scots have undertaken the distribution of the Mayor's tribute to the local men who served in H.M. Forces during the war. The certificates number nearly 14,000.
