Plaque: Story, 1810

In the Church of St.Michael and All Saints is a plaque which reads:

To perpetuate the memory of
a gallant soldier, loyal subject and dutiful son
this marble is inscribed with the name of
WILLIAM SAMUEL STORY,
Captain in H.M. LXV. Reg. of Foot
who died at Bombay, the XXI day of July MDCCCX,
aged XXVIII years

Captain Story was
second son of Anthony Story, Esquire
of Newbottle, in this parish

The Latin figures show he was with the 65th Regiment of Foot, and died on the 21st July, 1810, aged 28 years.
