Souvenir guns
In October 1919 two heavy German guns were offered to the Town Council as souvenirs. A proposal to reject them was made on the grounds that they would remind those who returned what they had been through.
Northern Echo 23/10/1919.

Three German machine guns were stolen from the TA Drill Hall in December 1921. They were souvenirs of the Great War which were stolen in the early hours of the morning. The guns were minus their locks. It was not clear whether they had been stolen for scrap iron or some other purpose. The military and police were both investigating.
Newcastle Weekly Chronicle 31/12/1921 reports the theft.
