"Paris to Durham
Memorial medal gifted by the Paris University.
An artistic gift in the form of a bronze medal struck in commemoration of the war has been received by the University of Durham from the University of Paris.
A covering letter reads:
"The University of Paris has had struck in commemoration of the war a medal representing knowledge, the hand-maiden of Right, in memory of the services rendered by its teachers and students on the battlefield or in the calm of study or laboratory. Scientica Instrumentum Justitiae, libro ense."
The University of Paris has decided to present one of these to each of its sister Universities in the Allied countries, and it is a special pleasure thus to pay respect to the Universities of the United Kingdom, the professors and students of which have so largely contributed to the triumph of our common cause.
We beg you to look upon this medal as pledge of a friendship that will, henceforth, never be broken."
