2014 Centenary Commemorations
A D.L.I. Reunion and First World War Commemorative Service was held in Durham Cathedral following the unveiling of the D.L.I. Statue statue in the Town Square Sunday September 14th 2014. A poem was read out by Ginalee Brownson, 14 years old, in memory of her father, Cpl. Lee Brownson, who had been killed leading a night patrol in Sangin, for which he was posthumously awarded the Conspicuous Gallantry Cross. The reading took place on the eve of what would have been her father’s 34th birthday.

In Durham School, a candle was lit for each of the 98 former pupils who fell, and then extinguished as their names were read out. This was at an evening of remembrance held at the school, organised by the Framwellgate Moor Branch of the Royal British Legion.
