The illuminated certificates, which were handed out by ex-serviceman Mayor, Cllr. Wm. Thwaites or by Ald. G.H. Procter, read as follows:
Presented by the Mayor, Aldermen, and Citizens of Durham and Framwellgate, as a token of their gratitude and appreciation of the service rendered to King and country".
At the end, the Mayor received his certificate from Alderman Procter.
