SHILDON

Proposed plaque at New Shildon Council School
It was suggested that there was a plaque for 1914-18 in New Shildon Council School. However, in a visit in 2008, there was no evidence of a plaque other than the one which commemorates the opening of the school in 1910.
Apparently much was taken away during the modernisation of these schools and deposited at Howlish Hall (now a nursing home) which was used as a storage and distribution centre for the Durham Education Committee. (Alan Ellwood).
