War Savings 1939-45
During the Second World war a Lanchester boy William Hampton, won a national Competition for a savings poster. His poster depicting Hitler with his hand outstretched over Durham cathedral, won first prize. It was exhibited in London, but the Hall and the poster were destroyed by a bomb during the blitz.

Lanchester people contributed to the War savings effort in other ways too. In the Council Offices are plaques given by the War Office and the Air Ministry for successful achievement in salute the Soldier Week and Wings for Victory Week. Another plaque was presented by the Admiralty to Lanchester to commemorate the adoption of Motor Torpedo Boat 36 during Warship Week, December 1941.
