The Northern Mail 23/02/1920 reports:
"Lanchester Parish Council has discussed the advisability of placing a German gun on the village green. It was pointed out that already a scheme was on foot to erect a public institute as a memorial to the fallen, and it was decided not to accept an enemy gun."
