The following has been compiled by James Pasby

1914, August 8th. 3rd Yorkshire Regt. billeted in Town Hall. The Masonic Hall was selected as the most suitable building for Hospital.

1914, August 11th. Voluntary Aid War Hospital opened at Masonic Hall. The first V.A.D. to be mobilized in the British Isles, and the only one to be hit by shells from the enemy's guns.

1914, August 18th. Recruiting office opened. Victoria Buildings, Tower Street, was first allocated, but due to the rush to the 'Call of the Colours' it proved to be quite insufficient and was moved to the County Court Buildings instead. West Hartlepool was constituted as a Recruiting Centre. Councillor-then Lieut. E. O. Bennett, Recruiting Officer, was appointed after Capt, Ostler from Northern Command was recalled to the colours.

1914, September 18th. 'PALS' (18th Batt. D.L.I.) raised by Earl of Durham, Col. Burdon and Mr. W.C. Gray, D.L.

1914, December 16th. German Bombardment of the Hartlepools (102 deaths to date).

1914, December 30th. 16 Additional deaths due to bombardment between the 16th and the 30th.

1915, January 4th. 119th death from injuries received in Hartlepools bombardment. 'Bantam' 19th D.L.I. Batt. formed in West Hartlepool under Col. W. Tomlinson.

1915, January 20th. 'Tipperary' club for Soldiers, Lynn Street opened by Col. Sir Neville Gunter, Bart.

1915, February 1st. Jam Factory taken as billets for troops.

1915, February 7th. 124th death from injuries received in Hartlepools bombardment.

1915, March 10th. 125th death from injuries received in Hartlepools bombardment.

1915, March 30th. 'Tipperary' Clubs (Dalton House and Seaton Carew) opened.

1915, May 5th. Bombardment Academy Picture by Mr. Jas Clark, R.I. (native of West Hartlepool) purchased by Mr. M. H. Horsley, J.P., and presented to Hartlepool Corporation.

1915, May 29th. 'Tipperary' Club at Hartlepool opened.

1915, June 16th. 'Tipperary' Club was opened at Central Estates.

1915, June 19th. Sir A. K. Butterworth presented medals to N.E.R. branch of the Ambulance Brigade at West Hartlepool for services during the bombardment.

1915, June 26th. 126th death from injuries received in Hartlepool bombardment.

1915, July 24th. V.A.D. Hospital (Masonic Hall) transferred to 'Normanhurst'. Opened by Mrs. Kenny, wife of Surgeon General Kenny. This was generously lent by Sir William Cresswell Gray, Bart., until it was closed April 26th 1919.

1915, December 18th. Bombardment Thanks-offering Day (£2,330 raised).

1916, February 2nd. Treasury grant £450 towards Hartlepools Hospital for treatment of bombardment cases.

1916, March 16th. Private Auction Sale of Bombardment Shell fragments.

1916, April 4th. Military Medal (M.M.) for bravery in the field instituted.

1916, April 7th. Rewards gazetted for gallantry in bombardment. D.S.O. to Lt-Col Robson; D.C.M. to Sergt. Douthwaite; M.M. to Bombardier Hope and Sergt. Mallin.

1916, May 20th. Lt-Col. L. Robson decorated with D.S.O. by the King for gallantry in bombardment. 1916, June 19th. 127th death from injuries received in Hartlepools bombardment.

1916, September 18th. Dowager Marchioness of Londonderry opened Church Army Hut at Hartlepool.

1916, November 11th. 'Tipperary' Club (Tower Street) opened by Col. A. J. Mullins.

1916, November 27th. Air raid damage at West Hartlepool. Zeppelin L34 (LZ.78) brought down by Lieut. I.V. Pyott, R.F.C.

1916, December 16th. Bombardment Anniversary (£2,690 raised for hospitals).

1917, January 11th. Burial at Seaton Carew, with Military honours, of two of Zeppelin crew washed ashore. Three others were subsequently recovered from the sea, and buried with comrades. (See November 27th above).

1917, June 2nd. Communal Kitchen opened at Hartlepool.

1917, June 4th. King's Birthday Honours. Baronetcy conferred upon Mr. W.C. Gray, D.L.; C.M.G. for Colonel Robson and D.S.O. for Major J. A. L. Downey.

1917, June 14th. King invested Colonel Robson, D.S.O. with C.M.G. at West Hartlepool.

1917, October 12th. Lister Street and Jesmond Road Schools taken as billets for troops.

1917, October 25th. Royal Red Cross Medals awarded to Nurse A. Stephenson, Matron, Hartlepool Hospital; Nurse A.C. Rastall; Matron, Cameron Hospital; Nurse M. Flick, Supt., Howbeck Infirmary, for services in bombardment.

1917, December 18th. Bombardment Thank-offering Day (£3,150 raised).

1918, February 4th. 'Tank' Week (War Savings) at West Hartlepool (£2,367.333 raised, £37 per head of population).

1918, March 13th. 3rd Zeppelin raid at West Hartlepool.

1918, May 8th. 3rd Cheshire Regt. stationed at Seaton Carew-vice K.O.Y.L.I. Regt transferred.

1918, August 13th. Retirement of Colonel Robson, C.M.G., D.S.O., from Military Service.

1918, October 24th. National Kitchen, Hart Lane, opened at West Hartlepool.

1918, October 30th. 3rd Cheshire Regt. struck camp at Seaton Carew.

1918, November 11th. Armistice signed by Germany. Viscount Furness presented Tunstall Court as a training home for discharged sailors and soldiers to be used in connection with Mr. J. W. Cosby's gift.

1918, November 21st. Surrender of German Fleet, including Seydlitz and Von der Tann, two of the cruiser battleships which took part in the Hartlepools bombardment.

1918, December 13th. Gift by Sir W.C. Gray, Bart., of £13.000 for Restoration of St. Hilda's Church, Hartlepool, with gift of Art Gallery for West Hartlepool.

1918, December 14th. Absent soldiers' votes taken.

1918, December 21st. German Submarine, U94, on view at West Hartlepool.

1919, January 1st. Act-Major, L. Ropner, made recipient of Military Cross.

1919, January 17th. The King confers Medal of Order of British Empire (O.B.E.) on Miss Randall, supervising telephonist, for devotion to duty at time of Bombardment.

1919, February 18th. Presentation of St. John War Service Badge to Commander and Staff at 'Normanhurst' V.A.D. Hospital.

1919, March 29th. Closing of 'Tipperary' clubs.

1919, April 2nd. West Hartlepool Corporation accept Tank 'Egbert' offered by National War Savings Committee for Borough’s Competition.

1919, April 26th. Closing of 'Normanhurst' V.A.D. Hospital. Award of Royal Red Cross (2nd Class) to Mrs. M. A. Strover, Commandant and Matron.

1919, April 29th. Presentation of 'Record Prize' Tank 'Egbert' by Major-General E. D. Swinton.

1919, June 17th Victory Square approved as West Hartlepool's War Memorial Scheme.

1919, June 28th. Peace Treaty with Germany signed at Versailles.

1919, July 6th. Thanksgiving Services on occasion of signing the Treaty of Peace.

1919, July 19th. Peace Day Official Celebrations.

1919, September 24th. British Red Cross and Order of St. John combine Forces.
